About 8 years ago, one of my yoga students introduced me to Ammachi. I read about her life and then went to her San Ramon, CA Ashram to receive my first hug when she was in town. Since then, Amma has been my role model and spiritual Guru. It is so amazing to be able to completely trust in someone who is completely pure. Amma has brought consciousness of equal rights to women world wide. She has housed, fed, and clothed thousands of abused women (and their children) in India. She promotes peace and equality of all races. She supports many different paths or religionsaccording to the persons natural disposition for spiritual progression. Amma has received and continues to receive many awards world wide for her humanitarian service work:
" As a child, I always wanted to know the causeof misery of mankind and thought that if sorrow is a truth, then there must be a cause and a way out." Amma explains.
" I realize my purpose is to console - to personally wipe away tears through selfless love, compassion, and service." - Amma
Amma says, " Compassion to the poor and the needy is our duty to God." Through the example of her own life Amma has inspired people from all over the world to walk in the path of selfless-service and compassion towards all beings.
Amma is in town until the June 14th. While she was in town I volunteered to be a greeter. I received two hugs and blessings from Amma. One of my energy therapy students went to see Amma and she said:
"Hey, I took the boys Tuesday night and I went tonight. First night was more impactful but both nights were wonderful. I had no idea what a "big" force she was, wonderful woman! Thanks for telling me about her."
