My yoga Sanskrit teachers of Krishnamacharya's lineage and Thomas Ashley-Farrand (a Hindu Priest and master-teacher of Sanskrit) explain that Om is the accumulation of the meanings of all of the Sanskrit mantra's put together.
So although Om is not focused on prosperity such as a Lakshmi mantra, It would still support prosperity as well as all of the positive aspects of the Self. The Sanskrit Mantra's is a purification practice to remove disturbances/blockages of the mind. It is like a spiritual vacuum cleaner so that we can become empty. Being in the state of emptiness enables us to commune with the Self (or All in All), which is already there in our mind as well.
